I realized when working with clients that therapy paralleled in many ways to mountaineering. Often clients come to therapy knowing where they want to be but struggling to know how to get there. However, as they would get closer to their treatment goals, they would often reflect on their progress by identifying where they once were and noting the development of skills that allowed them to reach their goal. Once they’re able to reach their goal, it’s often met with significant relief, accomplishment and peace.
Alpinists, or mountaineers who climb the Alps, require advanced skills and tools to brave the toughest conditions all in pursuit of the peak, and those similar feelings of my clients.
These climbers frequently start their mountaineering career with guides. That’s where I come in. I believe that with the right tools, guidance and skillset, you can get to your peak, whatever that may look like for you, and become the Alpinist of your own life.
